# Acceptable Use Policy

Temporary numbers are a legitimate tool for privacy, testing and keeping your personal number out of sign-up forms. This policy explains what is allowed, what is not, and what happens when the rules are broken. It is part of the Terms of Service. Last updated: 30 October 2026.

## 1. What you can use SMS Nitro for

- Verifying your own accounts on apps and websites without sharing your personal phone number.
- Keeping personal, work and project accounts separate.
- Protecting your privacy and reducing spam and unwanted calls to your real number.
- Testing SMS verification flows in software you build or are authorized to test.
- Getting a code from a country where you do not have a local number, for a service you are entitled to use.
- Running accounts for clients with their consent, within the rules of each platform.

## 2. Strictly prohibited

You may not use SMS Nitro, directly or through the API, to:

- Commit or facilitate fraud, scams, phishing, money laundering or any other illegal activity.
- Impersonate another person or organization, or open accounts in someone else's name without permission.
- Harass, threaten, stalk or abuse anyone.
- Send spam or create fake accounts in bulk, including for fake reviews, fake engagement, vote manipulation or bot networks.
- Evade bans, suspensions, identity checks or limits imposed by a platform on you or your accounts.
- Open, access or take over bank, payment, credit, crypto exchange, government or benefits accounts that are not legitimately yours, or abuse promotions, sign-up bonuses or referral programs.
- Create, store or distribute illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, or content that promotes violence or terrorism.
- Resell numbers or access in violation of these rules, or present SMS Nitro numbers as your own long-term phone service.
- Scrape, overload, reverse engineer or probe the website or API, share API keys, or try to bypass rate limits, payments or security controls.
- Abuse the refund or ticket process, for example by filing false claims about codes that were received.

## 3. Third-party rules

Apps and websites have their own rules about phone numbers and accounts. You are responsible for following them. A number working with a service does not mean that service allows your intended use.

## 4. Enforcement

We monitor for abuse using order patterns, payment signals and reports from users, providers and platforms. If we reasonably believe this policy has been broken we may, without prior notice:

- Cancel active numbers or refuse new purchases.
- Rate-limit or revoke API keys.
- Suspend or permanently close the account and any related accounts.
- Report the activity to law enforcement or affected parties where appropriate or required.

## 5. What happens to your balance

For minor or first-time issues we may warn you or limit features. If an account is closed for a serious violation such as fraud, we may withhold the remaining balance to cover losses, chargebacks, fees or investigation costs, to the extent permitted by law. If no fraud or loss is involved, any remaining balance is reviewed case by case under the Refund Policy. Funds subject to a legal order or investigation may be held until it is resolved. If you believe we made a mistake, reply to our notice or write to contact@smsnitro.com.

## 6. Reporting abuse

If you think an SMS Nitro number was used to harm you or someone else, email contact@smsnitro.com with the phone number, date and time, the service involved and a short description. We review every report, act on the account involved where appropriate and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. We do not share a user's personal data with the reporter unless the law requires it.
