# 'This phone number is banned' on Telegram

Telegram blocks numbers associated with spam, and the block follows the number, not the person.

## Why does Telegram say a new number is banned?

Because a previous user of that number ran spam on Telegram, or Telegram flagged the whole range. Cancel the number in your dashboard (no charge) and take one from a different country; the Telegram page ranks countries by recent success. Once in, set the cloud password and use the account normally for the first days.

## Can it be appealed?

Telegram accepts appeals by email for personal numbers; for a temporary number it is faster to take another one.

## Keeping the new account

- No mass joining, no mass messaging on day one.
- Avoid links in the first messages to strangers.
- Set two-step verification.

## FAQ

**Is the ban SMS Nitro's fault?** The number's past use is outside any provider's control; what the catalog does is remove countries that fail repeatedly and never charge for a number that did not work.

**Can a banned number be unbanned?** Telegram accepts appeals for personal numbers only. For a temporary number, take another.

**Does a ban affect my other Telegram accounts?** No. Bans are per number and per account.

**How do I avoid a ban on the new account?** No mass joining or messaging on day one, no links to strangers, set two-step verification.
