# SIM swap

A SIM swap is an attack where someone convinces a carrier to move your number to their SIM, then receives your verification codes and resets your accounts.

## What is SIM swap?

A SIM swap is an attack where someone convinces a carrier to move your number to their SIM, then receives your verification codes and resets your accounts.

## Why temporary numbers help

Accounts that are not linked to your personal number cannot be hijacked through your carrier. Pair a temporary or rented number with an authenticator app for the second factor.
